School is the best place to work! “Stop Child Labour, School is the best place to work” (SCL) is a joint lobbying, education and awareness raising campaign that seeks to eliminate child labour through the provision of full-time, formal and quality education.

Alliance 2015

The campaign is run by the Alliance2015 network of European development organisations: Cesvi (Italy), Concern (Ireland), Deutsche Welthunger Hilfe (Germany), IBIS (Denmark), Hivos (the Netherlands) and People in Need (Czech Republic) in co-operation with three other Dutch organisations: the General Education Union (AOb), the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (FNV) and the India Committee of the Netherlands (ICN).

Southern Partners

The campaign works in close cooperation with partner organizations across the world that are implementing concrete strategies for getting children out of work and into school. First hand experience and success stories from the field are the main source of inspiration for the campaign and serve as an important input to strengthen its lobbying, education and awareness raising activities in Europe.

Education
SCL is based on the conviction that the Millennium Development Goals can only be achieved if all forms of child labour are eradicated and all children up to the age of 15 are given the opportunity of full-time education. The campaign calls on the European Union, national governments and international organizations to formulate coherent policies on the twin issues of child labour and education.

Objective

The overall objective is to have every child protected from work and receiving formal, regular and uninterrupted education for at least 8 or 9 years by 2015. This will enable children to enjoy their right to childhood, to develop their full potential and to overcome the vicious circle of poverty. SCL believes that fighting child labour and achieving universal education are the key tools for countries to eradicate poverty and boost economic and social development.
